Telling stories is pretty big in my husband’s family. My father-in-law and his sister are pretty well known for their story telling. My father-in-law is often requested to tell of his “Bosco” stories and shenanigans. We all sit around the table and laugh and laugh until our cheeks hurt! This has become such a family tradition among the family that we had a story telling segment at our wedding.
Fast forward a few years and now we have a daughter and she has inherited the story telling gene. Almost every dinner we have to endure a tale of auspicious details, usually about some prince and princess, along with some evil villain. We have to turn out the lights, and she starts every story the same, “One night, in the cold west…” It’s so cute really, to see that aspect of my husband and his family shine through. She is so proud of herself when she is done telling it. We of course are expected to laugh and say good job.
As professional bloggers who run two different, but very busy blogs, Nathan and I are always trying to come up with new dinner ideas. We talk about the recipes we make and if we like them. If something went wrong with the recipe we talk about what we can do to make it different and how we could improve it. Hannah of course never fails to tell us whether or not she liked or disliked something we made.
Our family like many other families is busy throughout the week. So on the rare occasion I make a dessert, I like to make it easy and quick. One of Hannah’s favorite things to make, of course, are cookies! She loves to crack the eggs into my stand mixer and has her own special measuring cup that she likes to use. It’s so much fun really, it takes double the time, but spending time with her makes every extra minute worth it. I like teaching her cooking fractions and watching her little inquisitive mind at work. Now Hannah is a chocolate lover like her mommy. So she asked if we could make extra chocolate cookies. I said sure! So I came up with Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. We used our traditional cookie recipe, but I added ½ cup of cocoa and 1 extra egg to add some extra moisture.
2 sticks of butter
2 and 1/4 cups of whole wheat pastry flour
1 tsp of baking soda
1 tsp of salt
1/2 cup of cocoa powder
3/4 cup of raw turbinado sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 bag of semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Spray two pans and spoon or roll into balls even amounts of dough and place on pan.
Cook the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until desired doneness.
When it comes time to clean I put it all in my beautiful GE Appliances Dishwasher. I love my dishwasher, seriously I do. It has out performed any of the other dishwashers I have ever had, and I have gone through THREE. GE Appliances are well made products that are not only good quality but innovative. The Hands Free Auto Fill Refrigerator is one such appliance. The water filling port is bigger then your traditional landing point, and can sense and fill anything from water bottles, coffee pots, to a pot. You literally just set the item down press a button and walk away it will fill the item almost full and then turn off automatically. Multitasking at its finest! A great item that compliments the Fridge is the Double Oven with Tri Ring Burner. I have a double over and let me tell you it’s the best! I don’t have space in my kitchen for a traditional double oven and so this solution is just awesome. “From the lowest simmer to the highest sear, perfection is yours.” The double ovens will provide you even, convection cooking at its finest. Lastly lets talk about the GE appliance dishwasher. It has 102 jet washing system, because really who wants to pre wash their dishes before they go into the dishwasher? I surely don’t. With this 102 jet system the GE appliance dishwasher you won’t have to prewash those items, giving you more time to do other things. If you want to see all the products in action go here and take a look! As you can see here the overall look of these appliances is very sleek and modern.
