Its almost that time of year, BACK TO SCHOOL!! Where did the summer go? For us we have about 9 more days before the first day of school. I know some kids who have already begun, and kid who will start school after us. In many ways I am very much looking forward to the beginning of the routine, and dreading it all at the same time. There is something very cathartic of getting back into the flow of the routine. We are usually ready to eschew all the routine as summer heads in, but the lack of it towards the end of the summer can leave our family a bit disheveled. I am not going to enjoy setting the alarm for way earlier than we get up currently or the rush around of getting ready and making sure everyone has back packs, and lunches, but I know that Hannah is ready to be back in school and she misses seeing her friends. OH, to be a kid again.
School lunch was a learning curve for us last year. I have always made Hannah’s food and I try to keep her diet free of many dyes, and artificial flavors as possible. I noticed from an early age with her that when she had too much sugar, or these things in her system, she was able to focus less and couldn’t concentrate. But we all know that prepared products make the packing of lunches a 100 times easier and to keep my sanity, I knew I needed to find something that would be easy but also allow her to keep concentration at school.
It can be a chore in the store to find more natural products. I like shopping at Kroger because they have many natural products available. You can usually find the natural products aisle denoted by green leafs on the aisle sign. One of our go-to brands for natural products is Horizon organic. Having there cheese sticks in our fridge is absolutely essential to making the morning rush doable. I know that I can trust Horizon organic, and that the cheese is providing protein staying power for her. I also like their packaged products. I know that their grahams, and sandwich crackers are free of artificial flavors, color and preservatives, the strive to source simple, recognizable ingredients and they support organic programs that say NO to GMO’s. This is a win in my book.
Kroger is a great one stop shop for all you natural food needs, especially for those easy back to school lunch needs. I love Kroger’s Simple Truth brand, as they help fill out Hannah’s lunches and I know that adding in Simple truth deli meats, cottage cheese, will help keep her fueled and going until she gets home at the end of the day. I know that the pledge of Simple Truth, is to be free of any preservatives, and their deli meat is not cured with nitrites or nitrates, and contain no antibiotics. I know that whats going into Hannah is feeding her body and mind. So even though I am not with her every meal of the day, I know that she is getting the best I can give her.
