It’s been a beautiful summer. I can hardly believe that school starts soon. We are taking this time and really enjoying these last days of summer. I purposely made this summer a more laid back one, because well I don’t believe that every moment of summer needs to be scheduled. We haven’t taken any big trips this summer, and that’s okay, its mostly because we have been working non-stop on our house. But what I have determined that we do is take advantage of adventures waiting here in the city. It’s been nice doing things around our community that’s offered in the summer, we have been to concerts, and seen fireworks. Taking walks to the park and in the park have been very pleasurable!
There are many ways to have an adventure. Smells, taste, touch can all take you on a journey. The sense of smell and taste have the power to evoke deep emotional responses and trigger memories. I can slice into a watermelon and just the mere smell transports me back to summer as a child and eating watermelon outside with my cousins. Or the just the smell of coffee in the mornings begins to satisfy my brain, and wake up my senses. Food brings us together as families, and there is something that bonds us collectively when we sit around the table and enjoy a good meal. As much as I enjoy eating the food, I think I enjoy preparing the food and bringing joy to my family. I get something so profoundly satisfying out of making a good meal. I love sitting and enjoying the fruits of my labor and then seeing my family enjoy it as well.
If there is one thing everyone in the family loves its ice cream. There can be things that I make for the main course that people may not like, but ice cream is something that no one can say, “no” to. But there is a big difference between regular ice cream and the good stuff. One of my family’s absolute favorite ice creams really isn’t ice cream at all, it’s gelato. HemisFares Gelato to be exact. If you aren’t familiar with HemisFares it’s a newer brand found in the Kroger family of stores. It’s dedicated to bringing in the best of the best food from around the world right into our local grocery store. They send culinary teams out and source the best of the best. I remember the very first time we had a HemisFares product, it was their pasta. As a food blogger, good pasta is something that makes the dish shine.
If you aren’t familiar with gelato, it is the Italian version of ice cream. It’s more creamy, and silky, and some the best frozen treat you will put in your mouth. If you are an ice cream lover you must try gelato and pick up some HemisFares Gelato. There are many flavors available, chocolate, straciatella, cappuccino, strawberry, hazelnut, and of course pistachio! The latter happens to be our favorite. It’s made with Italian pistachios and cream which makes every bite make you feel like you are enjoying gelato in an Italian bistro.
The gelato is amazing on it’s own, trust me. But, I wanted to make something that truly would wow my family and stay true to the product and it’s Italian roots. What could be better than Pistachio Gelato Bars? I used a traditional European cookie that is often eaten with coffee (also found at Kroger) and used it as layers for the base and in between the ice cream. I let the gelato slightly soften so I could spread it, added some chopped pistachios and then repeated the process. Two layers of delicious! Finally, on top of the final layer of gelato I added chocolate chips and pistachios to accentuate the flavors even more. Place it into the freezer for about an hour until firm, chop it into bars and enjoy!
These were a hit with my family! The HemisFares Pistachio Gelato transported our taste buds on a journey to Italy. HemisFares Gelato is the quality I have come to expect from HemisFares.
We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we did. You can find so many HemisFares products in your Kroger family store, keep your eyes open for a culinary adventure, it’s just around the aisle. For more information on the brand, like their Facebook page.
