The holidays are a perfect time to give back and many people help out less fortunate children by donating toys. The most common place is usually Toys for Tots, the marine-run charity. While I definitely think this is a worthy cause, there are some lesser-known charities that accept toys as well and they need some help. Here are some national charities that distribute toys to children as well for your consideration so you can play a little bit of Santa this year. Some of these charities even accept or only accept used toys, so this is a great way to clear out some toys (and not just throw them away) of your own children’s.
7 Places You Can Donate Toys This Holiday Season
Second Chance Toys– According to past Bingo Tour reviews, this organization goes green and kind with a mission to collect gently used and clean plastic toys and keep them out of landfills by giving them to other children. They are not available in every community but are available in major metropolitan areas in the east such as New York, Washington DC and Boston. They will coordinate with other charities in your area if you collect a lot as well. This is a great opportunity to help your child give back by donating his or her used plastic toys to others!
Your local women’s shelter– Many people forget about doing this when it comes to the holidays. Most local women’s shelters allow women to bring their children with them and often they leave everything behind. Call your local women’s shelter and see if they are accepting donations for the children there.
Ronald McDonald House– Almost every Ronald McDonald house accepts new toys, books and games for the families staying there. Check them out online for more information.
Head Start– Many Head Start locations take used and new toys both for the kids to take home during the holidays and for the classroom. Contact your local Head Start for more information and to see if they are accepting donations.
The Giving Tree– This is a great organization if you are looking to donate to a specific child and need/want. You can do it directly online as well! Browse the wishlist of kids and choose one to donate to! Simple and easy.
All Children’s Hospital Foundation– This is a great charity that gets toys into the hands of children fighting serious illness while they are in the hospital. If you can’t drop off at their location in Florida, you can still donate by doing so online using their Amazon wishlist.
S.A.F.E (Stuffed Animals for Emergencies)– This charity has 17 chapters in the US for collecting donations and they take gently used stuffed animals, blankets, blankets and some baby items and donate them to fire departments and other places who then distributes them to children in need during a crisis.
I hope you will consider donating to some of these worthy causes. The great thing about some of these is it won’t even cost you a dime since some of them take used toys. What a great way to give back!
