I love homemade applesauce. I just love it. It’s one of those things that really makes your heart happy. We posted about our crockpot applesauce some time ago and while I love that recipe, I was looking for something just a little different. We had a few pears laying around the house and my wife said, ‘just throw in some pears, it can’t hurt.’ Umm, best idea EVER! We call it Apple Pear Sauce, it might have another name but we’re sticking with that!!
Apple Pear Sauce has a very similar texture to apple sauce. I would say our version is actually slightly thicker than regular apple sauce. You can definitely taste the pear in the recipe but it’s not overpowering, it’s just addictive!! In each jar we place a cinnamon stick which really finishes the sauce nicely. I love cinnamon, it makes me happy.
If you are looking for a non-traditional apple sauce recipe you’ve found it. It’s not quite apple sauce but really will hit the spot! I hope you love this recipe as much as I do!!
- 3 lbs of Apples
- 1 lb of Pears
- Boil fruit whole (no need to core or skin)
- Place in a food mill OR push it through a fine mesh strainer. You can peel or core the fruit to make this process easier if you don't have food mill but it's not necessary.
- Place into a jar and refrigerate or eat warm.
- Enjoy.
