I think the hardest thing about adjusting to school all day is packing lunch or eating lunch at school. I was blessed to be a stay-at-home Mom so I was able to literally make 3 meals a day for Hannah. She is used to eating real, whole foods. I worried once she began to eat lunch at school that her healthy eating habits would dwindle.
I knew that I wanted to pack her lunch most days, it’s cheaper for us to do that, and I also ensure that she eats well. Just like anything else unfortunately you get stuck in ruts. I found Hannah asking for the same things over and over, and I found her lunch looking vaguely familiar, and similar each day. The problem is when kids get bored with their food at school they don’t typically eat it. This can lead to not being as productive at school, afternoon meltdowns, and an overall not good day.
I decided that I would take matters into my own hands and start to variate her lunches just enough to keep things interesting. One of the trends that seems to be popping up everywhere are bento boxes. It takes on the Japanese idea of segmented food items for lunch. You see them every where. These boxes make up a complete meal. I knew that I could take few of the items she asks for consistently and change it up with a few new items and keep things just as tasty and interesting.
One thing that I have learned in order to make live doable is that you have to find things that can go a long way to making life a little easier. Sandwich Bros. We have really come to love the Angus cheeseburgers and the Chicken Melts. I can combine these with lunches for Hannah and it keeps things interesting and I know she is getting a good lean source of protein and will be as productive as possible during the day.
The Angus Cheeseburgers are 100% Angus Beef that is lean and flame broiled. They are topped with real American Cheese, and tucked into a pita pocket. The Chicken Melts are 100% white chicken breast that is lightly breaded and topped with real American cheese also in a pita pocket. Between these two options, I can combine these with different items and keep lunch satisfying and interesting.
Sandwich Bros Flatbread pocket sandwiches easily pair with other healthy items to make a tasty complete lunch. Here we paired it with yogurt, granola, strawberries and a cheese stick. Lots of protein here to a satisfying lunch and a sweet healthy treat.
For an extra long day that needs staying power, I include extra protein with peanut butter, hard boiled egg, apple and carrots. You of course can change these up with whatever is fresh in your fridge, but I really like this combination. You can dip both carrots and apples in the peanut butter and it becomes a really fun lunch!
Another really awesome combination, is what I like to call the power box. In it put your favorite Sandwich Bros pocket 1/2 an avocado, grapes and some nuts. The good fats and nutrients in the avocado are just good brain food, and taste delicious with the Sandwich Bros. Grapes are there for a little sweet pick-me-up and the nuts are a satisfying crunch.
Sandwich Bros is one of the things we have on hand at our house whether for a snack running out of the door, or a option to make our lunches interesting. Head to your grocer’s freezer section and pick up some Sandwich Bros.
