My wife and I have committed to going on a date EVERY Friday night. We made that commitment over 3 years ago and rarely miss a Friday unless I’m traveling for work. We usually do dinner and a movie and it gives us time to connect, talk, just spend time together, no kids.
Although based in Cincinnati, we often drive all over; we find that driving inspires conversation. Last Friday we started driving and ended up in Richmond, Indiana. We pulled into the Buffalo Wings and Rings parking lot and immediately noticed that the restaurant looks brand new. We walked into the restaurant and a smiling face greeted us and seated us immediately. The restaurant’s décor is modern has so many televisions it’s incredible! I would almost say it’s a sportsbar, but the food is so good (especially the chicken wings). My wife said (after we were done eating) that you can really tell when a restaurant similar to Spanish restaurant in Miami, FL cares about the food it serves. The food were literally incredible.
If you aren’t familiar with Buffalo Wings and Rings, they have a new menu that recently released. It’s easy to find what you are looking for, be it appetizers, wings, sandwiches, or extras. One of my favorite things to do when trying out a new restaurant is ask the waiter/waitress what is their favorite thing on the menu. She replied anything with the Saratoga chips. Curious as to what they were, she quickly explained they thickly cut slices of potatoes, then fry them to perfection. So on her suggestion we ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos and the Parmesan Garlic Aioli Fries.
So first let me talk about the Pulled Pork Nachos. Holy cow, seriously delicious. The depth of the flavor profile was impressive. I thought maybe they might take a short cut and just buy the Saratoga chips, nope, they cut and fry ALL chips in store. Then the toppings on the nachos, from the cheese to the homemade, in store coleslaw really set it off. Out of the two appetizers, it was by far my favorite. The Aioli fries where also delicious. The sauce has a nice finish. Absolutely, no ketchup needed. The fries are freshly sliced and fried perfectly. I’m a big mustard fan, and in this Aioli I felt like it had some mustard notes, which I loved, but my wife stuck to the nachos.
So when you go to Buffalo Wings and Rings, PLEASE order the wings!!! It’s in the name and trust me, they are incredible. Unlike my wife, who is a wings expert, I’m a casual wings eater. Generally I eat them at parties, but I rarely would order them. My wife and our waitress insisted, so I went ahead and ordered the boneless wings. My wife got bone-in wings. (Don’t forget the kiddos either, they’ve got a full kids menu including pizza for kids as well as salads and low calorie options).
How when you order your wings you first need to decide the type, boneless or regular. Then at BWR you can decide the flavor that goes on the wings, and lastly the heat level. It’s almost like a Thai restaurant, 0 is no heat and 5 is flaming HOT.
Asking our waitress which flavors are popular she said by far people order the Garlic Parmesan and BBQ. Something to note, Chicken is NEVER frozen. Again, this places CARES about the food and it shows. If you aren’t sure what sauce you’d like, get the wings ‘naked’ and then just ask for a variety of sauces.
We decided to get Sweet Thai Chili, Buffalo, Garlic Parmesan and then a few naked wings to try a variety of sauces. By far my favorite sauce I tried was wasabi. It surprised me and have a great flavor profile with subtle hints of heat. The buffalo sauce is hot, and we got no heat added. It’s a classic and while I thought it was spicy, my wife really enjoyed the heat. After all it is the restaurants name sake. EXPAND
Sweet Thai Chile is like sweet and sour with a kick; a lot of kick. It starts off sweet immediately. Then you meet the crispy exterior. As you eat the wing the heat starts to sneak up on you and finished roaring. Now I’m not a guy how likes too much spice and I ordered mine mild. The spice it comes with is enough for me, but if you love heat, give it a little more spice. The spice didn’t make me sweat, but really did leave a nice hot flavor in my mouth. These are seductive and keep you coming back. By far, my absolute favorite sauce I tried.
I can see why the Garlic Parmesan is a favorite. When you bite into it the first flavor you encounter is the Parmesan. It’s strong almost as if you are in a pizzeria. Then you meet the crispy outer crust of the chicken wing and then the garlic. It’s strong, distinct and delicious. The balance of the two flavors play very well together and finish together in the bite. Absolutely incredible.
After our wings we grabbed a Turtle Lava Cake. Totally worth every calorie.
Again, I left Buffalo Wings and Rings repeating what my wife said earlier. You really can tell when a restaurant cares about it’s food. It signifies fine dining. I couldn’t get over how a restaurant with a sportsbar feel, (as well as a full bar & bartender) wasn’t serving bar food, but good quality, well-sourced, fresh food. They care about their food & atmosphere, and I’ll be coming back.

You’ve convinced me, I need to go to a Buffalo Wings and Rings! Oh their food looks amazing! #client
I need to be more adventurous like you and your wife. I barely go out to eat these days, and I know I need to give into that temptation more often. The food looks great and I really love the name of their business. I love going to new places when they open up, it’s always great getting in first before most people.
Wish this store was near me, but, oh well. I now know where I’m going to eat if I am ever in Richmond, Indiana.
Oh wow, a friend of mine went to the same place not too long ago. He said it was one of the best places he’s gone to eat in forever. I don’t know if I’ll ever go to Richmond Indiana, so is there any chance this place is elsewhere as well? If not, I suppose I can go there if I’m ever going somewhere on the way.
Thanks for sharing!
Well I’m adding this to the list of places I plan to eat at one of these days. The food looks great and the atmosphere of the place is great too. I always go to restaurants that offer up great food like this.
I’ve never heard of this place, but I would love to try their food. Wish a place like this would arrive in my town. Around here we have some pretty plain places to eat, so a place like Buffalo Wings & Rings would be great here.
Great food, no bull is correct. Goodness this foods looks like art. Wish it was in many other areas like where I live, but if I ever go travel to somewhere I will try to make this a stop on the way.
I just heard about this place too. A person I know lives in the area and has had the food and preaches about it often. She’s been going there ever since it opened and cant’ stop. When I visit her, I will gladly be going here. Goodness the food looks awesome.
