Before our Carnival Legend cruise a year ago, I was trying to decide on excursions on all our different ports. We really prefer Sea Days simply because we love relaxing on the Serenity deck, an adults only deck (no, there are no more topless decks!). Serenity is for anyone over 21 years of age. On the Legend and other Carnival Spirit class ships, the Serenity has a bar area, tables and chairs for eating, couches, hammocks, a pool and hot tub and all at the back of the ship to view the beautiful ocean the whole time you are relaxing.
We even enjoy port days because Serenity is basically empty since everyone else is off the ship. But, when we cruised to Roatan, Honduras, I wanted to see the island so we booked a private tour. I scoured the internet to find the best person for this job and found him! His name was Tex and we met outside the port for a day of whatever we wanted to do. I LOVED it! He customized our tour just for us. I wanted to see the schools, which unfortunately were not in session, but was able to see and learn all about their education system through our guide. It is only mandatory for children to go to school through 6th grade, and although it is supposed to be mandatory, only about 50% of the students complete 6th grade. For those that do complete 6th grade, some continue on but others do not because there are not enough school buildings for all of them past that grade level.
I loved the crystal clear waters in Roatan and could not stop taking pictures of it every chance I got!
I even found my own little bar that I wanted to own! How perfect is this? Who wouldn’t want to own a bar/restaurant floating out in the beautiful waters of an island?
Roatan is only 40 miles long and 3 miles wide but we spent the entire day driving around the island and seeing all parts of it. There are so many advantage points on the island to catch a view of the sea. In Roatan, you can not build anything higher than 3 stories high. NO SKYSCRAPERS to block those views!
I loved all the restaurants right on the beach and the little shops that lined the roads down by the sea.
I have learned recently that West End Bay in Roatan was named one of the top 25 beaches for 2015. It is understandable why because of the gorgeous views, the beautiful Caribbean sea, and the friendly people. Roatan is a place that I look forward to vacationing to in the future because of the gorgeous views! My one purchase was their really Vanilla which is super inexpensive and I ended up buying 6 bottles for gifts and 2 for myself. I am just about out because I use it in all my baking! Wonder if I can talk Robert into going back simply because I need to pick up more vanilla; Seeing this beautiful island is just an added bonus!
