So it’s hard to resist chocolate and I love peanut butter. So when I made this butter cream imagine eating a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup flavor frosting….seriously. I wanted to eat this entire spoon of frosting.
The dark chocolate cupcakes paired perfectly with this frosting and OMG, it’s amazing. Using mini chocolate chips as a garnish it really was a hit at the office. The trick to this recipe is being careful with the chocolate chips. You’ll need to melt them, but don’t ever add something hot to butter cream frosting, it will break it.
Adding in the peanut butter makes the butter cream frosting even more creamy, but the melted chocolate chips make this finger and spoon lickin’ good. This is one of my top five favorite frosting and if you love chocolate and peanut butter together, seriously, try this!
Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we did, it’s incredible.
- ½ of chocolate chips MELTED, then cooled until barely warm to the touch
- ¼ cup of coco powder
- ½ cup of peanut butter
- 2 ½ cups of powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp of milk
- 2 sticks of butter (room temperature)
- Cream your butter, then combine with sugar, coco powder and milk.
- Next slowly melt your chocolate chips in the microwave, at 15 second increments. Let cool so it's barely warm to the touch.
- Add the melted chocolate and peanut butter to the mixture and combine throughly.
- Enjoy.
Look yummy !
But 1/2 of mini chocolate chips, cup or bag ?
I assume you mean 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
Yes, because it’s not mention in the recipe.
Thanks.
How much chocolate chips? Melt 1/2 of how many (cups, bag, etc) ??
I don’t see how much of chocolate chips to use/melt. It just says 1/2 of chocolate chips. How much?
This is very good. I prepared mine and refrigerated it for a couple days. It seemed dense and I wonder if I should have whipped it again to make it more fluffy or light. Any ideas? Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Is this enough to frost a whole cake or do I double it?
did you ever get a reply on your post? I also need to know how much this recipe yields.
Hi there choco-peanut butter enthusiast,
Just confirming the recipe ,”butter” amount, for 2 sticks (1 cp) seems to be a disproportionate ratio. (???)
Thank you in advance for your reply!
I made a tweaked version of this, and used 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips, as that amount made sense. I used only 1 stick of butter, as 2 seemed way too much, and I also used only 3 TB of cocoa powder and scaled the powdered sugar back to 1 1/2 cups. As it is written, 2 1/2 cups is way to sweet for us. Used 2 TB milk. It turned out perfectly, with an excellent chocolate/peanut butter ratio, and it was plenty sweet.
Thank You! I’m gonna try this 🧁😋
How much chocolate chips just says 1/2 of is that 1/2 bag of choclate chips 1/2 cup…what 1/2 OF
Is this supposed to read 1/2 CUP of chocolate chips?
