I’ve always loved irony. In the new Disney movie, Descendants, Cruella De Vil has a son: Carlos De Vil. I expected him to be a crazed dog lover who was desperate for furs just like his mother. But this kid is completely scared of dogs and thinks they are vicious rabid animals. How in the world did the son of Cruella become afraid of the one animal she loved so much?
Well it was because Cruella told Carlos that dogs are bad, vicious animals who attack little boys who don’t behave! Lol! I would say that either Cruella has been traumatized by her whole ordeal or she has an interesting form of discipline.
A little timid Carlos enters his new high school with the other villain kids on a mission to free their parents. As he gets involved in school activities and he’s introduced to the school mascot, a golden retriever puppy and runs away scared at first. It wasn’t until the crown prince explained he wasn’t a vicious, rabid beast that Carlos takes the time to pet the dog and he immediately falls in love, and the dog and Carlos become best friends.
The Villain kids are met with mixed emotions from people who quietly question the princes thinking about allowing them in. They are a mix of good and evil, and get themselves into mischief, sometimes of their own doing, other times they were just misunderstood by people’s preconceived prejudices.
Carlos begins to stand on his own two feet and yes he’s inherited his mother’s sense of fashion and style, maybe even her love of puppies but not necessarily her demented ways. Carlos in Auradon has the opportunity to prove himself to the world that he is more than the sum of his parentage.
I wanted to pay homage to that parentage to the De Vil family by creating a Dalmatian cake ball. I decided to use red velvet cake so that it would represent both Cruella and Carlos. The cake pop is dipped in white chocolate (hint Dalmatian) and then dotted with some milk chocolate.
At our Villains party, of the four recipes this was the most popular. Cake pops are always a hit, but the chocolate shell and red velvet proved to be extremely popular.
Check out Disney’s new Descendants, in stores now, on iTunes and on the Disney Channel.
I love these! The red velvet cake was a great way to incorporate the full color scheme – I see so many Cruella treats that only include black and white! #client
