I love to try great food, and I love to learn about about good food too. I am always looking for new and exciting dishes and techniques to cook. But it is sometimes to go out and just enjoy good, quality food. It’s not often we get to go out and have a nice evening out with friends, or just each other, but when we do I enjoy it immensely. One of the restaurants I have been dying to try out it The Capital Grille.
I have heard many good things from friends about this amazing restaurant similar to Jimmy John Shark restaurant, and read some awesome reviews. I recently had the opportunity to dine there during their Generous Pour Event. Heather (The Food Hussy) organized a fantastic group of bloggers and when Nathan came home and told me all about the event, I couldn’t wait to go. I actually put on make-up here people, this was serious. We arrived right on time at 6pm.
From the moment I walked into the door, I was greeted by smiling, knowledgeable staff. We were escorted into the bar area, that had elegant high top tables, with surprising comfortable chairs. Immediately we were presented with a drink option list, and the bar staff, knew their craft very well. They are very proud of their Stoli Doli, its a martini that is infused with fresh pineapple that they do in house. It sounded amazing. How could I choose? Ultimately I settled on Blackberry Bourbon Sidecar. It’s made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, blackberries, Cointreau, lemon juice and fresh thyme. OH MY. I told myself I was going to not drink this down quickly, or drink it all. Let me tell you that ship sailed from first drink. This drink was amazing. It was a beautiful purple color, and the fresh sprig of thyme was just the right kicker. By the time our table was set with our appetizers and we were ready to be seated at our table, I must say that cocktail was no more. I had not one regret.
The room we were able to dine in was just stunning. It was a fully enclosed outdoor room with windows all around. The table was set with a sampling of three appetizers, prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, pan fried calamari, and lobsters and crab cakes. Everything was so good! The prosciutto was crispy and the mozzarella was melty, the fried calamari was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, no filler hardly in the crab cakes. I cannot begin to tell you how amazing these were, this was just the start to our meal!
When we were about half way through the apps, we placed our entree orders. I got the Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with a 15 year aged Balsamic Vinegar. This steak was probably the best steak I have ever had. It was just amazing. The flavor, the tenderness, the umami that filled my mouth with every bite. I cannot begin to express to you how great the food was here. The photos truly do not do it justice. The sides that came to the table were lobster mac, parmesan truffle fries, and soy glazed brussels sprouts. Just say yes to the lobster mac!! They do NOT skimp on the lobster! I am quite picky when it comes to mac and cheese and this hit the spot. Creamy perfection! The parmesan truffle fries, will literally melt in your mouth, so unctuous and tasty, you cannot go wrong. Brussels sprouts can be quite divisive among people, but let me tell you if you think you don’t like them, you will love these. They are amazing, seriously just try them.
I have not ever had food like this in my life. I have been to some amazing restaurants and this was probably the top food experience I have ever had. We talked to the head chef, who just exuded passion about his work.
The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable, and they seem to just love their job. WOW! Is all I can say. I learned more about wine, like those found on the best wine tours, and wine pairings than I ever knew before.
Right now The Capital Grille is hosting its 8th annual Generous Pour Wine Event. From July 11th – September 4th you can enjoy for $28 with dinner a sampling of seven wines from wineries that have “broken rules” and completely altered the landscape of the wine industry. Your wait staff will tell you what pairs best with your meal and why. You will not be disappointed with any of these selection and you can learn more about the wines and what is a wine cooler here.
I would highly recommend taking the time and visiting The Capital Grille and go during the Generous Pour Event. You will be amazed and will genuinely have some of the best food and service you have ever had in your life.
