As a dad, sometimes I feel like I fall short. You see these amazing people all around you, online, offline, at church, at work that inspire you. They seem like perfect parents. I’m far from perfect and while I might seem like a hero to my five year old, being a dad can be hard and I fail often. Just today my little one said, “let go daddy, I can do it on my own.”
Okay. I’ll let go, but I’ll never leave you.
My wife and I want more babies and being in our early 30’s it’s a wonderful time. Friends are having their second or third baby and instead of baby showers, they are having baby sprinkles. Now as a guy I have to admit that anything that tones down a baby shower is welcomed LOL. By no means do I not want to celebrate but I’m a….”It’s a baby shower type of guy.” I am however a baker and enjoy the smell of delicious cupcakes. Putting effort into food is just my way of expressing my love and fondness for someone or something.
So today, I want to introduce my newest creation: Homemade Sprinkles. I’m teaming up with Luvs Diapers to let parents know we don’t have to be perfect to be amazing. Little gifts of time, energy and effort can change the life or your family or friends. So, being inspired by the colors of Luvs, here are my DIY sprinkles!!
First let me say they are easy and ONLY THREE ingredients. They will take a few hours to harden but if you have a little one or a party theme, these are perfect and you probably have everything in your pantry already!
So, if you hear about baby sprinkle parties, try this recipe. The cupcakes are super simple, just a box mix except I pulled out the oil and replaced it with applesauce. The frosting is a meringue buttercream, which is light and fluffy. To make it you’ll need six egg whites, 3 cups of sugar, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 2 sticks of butter. If you want it stiffer, just add a little sugar. I’d recommend chilling it before frosting your cupcakes.
To make the sprinkles, you’ll need corn syrup, powdered sugar and milk. Combine all the ingredients and then separate in bowls for the desired colors. Then place mixture in plastic baggies and cut the tips with a small hole. Then on wax paper, pipe lines. Let these dry for a few hours (I let mine dry over night).
Bam. Homemade sprinkles. Bring these cupcakes and a Luvs diaper cake or bouquet you’ll be set for any baby sprinkle party. Just be kind and leave your husbands behind. 😉
