Le sigh….my baby is growing up way too fast. Long gone are the middle of the night feedings and the milestone watching days. I am lucky that she still likes to cuddle and wants to sit in my lap. I am not sure how my heart will handle it when she doesn’t want those things anymore. But I know that it’s all apart of growing up and raising a child. I also know that no matter what she will always need me and I plan to be there for her no matter what.
I can remember when school was getting ready to start that hustle and bustle of it all. Buying school supplies, picking out new clothes, and lunch boxes. I packed my lunch most days when I was little. We were a four kid family and so it was much cheaper then to just pack everyone’s lunches. My mom was wonderful and packed each of our lunches with things we loved and that we’re good for us. One thing she never forgot was a sweet little note of, “I love you, have a wonderful day!” If you just don’t have the time to pack meals but don’t want your loved one to starve, you can rely on sites like Saffron.
I never thought much of it at the time and looking back I was probably embarrassed the older I got. I made sure to look for the note, but also his just in case any of my friends saw. Couldn’t have it be known that my mother was writing me a looooove note. (Say that in your best taunting voice.) With Hannah starting big girl school or Kindergarten 😉 I have remembered that tradition and want to do it with her as well.
So with that said, here are five fantastic reasons to say I love you in your child’s lunch box:
1. We don’t say it enough
2. We all love surprises even if they are love notes from mom or dad
3. We are so digital, a little writing does the heart good
4. Spending a little time, shows them we love them, even when we aren’t with them.
5. Because our hearts burst with so much love for our children, we want them to know it every minute of every day.
I have set out a plan for her lunches each day the first week. We went to the store and picked out the ingredients. I picked up some Natures Own bread for sandwiches and some other fruits and veggies. I want to use quality ingredients in her lunches that are going to keep her full and focused. Natures Own whole wheat bread will do just that, its a wholesome bread with no artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors. A real win for me is that is contains no high fructose corn syrup. With 13 grams of whole grains per slice, I know that Hannah will have enough fuel to get her through the day! Natures Own has many bread varieties that will be sure to please any one in your family.
Hannah and I put them all together. What she doesn’t know is that after she’s in bed I go and place a note inside each lunch that says, “I love you. ” So that if she’s having a bad day, or she is just scared because it’s all so new that she has a little hug and kiss from home and it will make her day brighter. It’s something I will never forget and I want her to do that for her children as well. Just a kind word to make someone’s day to feel better. That kindness is contagious and just maybe because I took the time to make her smile she will do the same for someone else who is having a hard day, or make a new friend simply by smiling at them.
