I love mandarins. They are a great snack and I will often peel one in the afternoons as a great healthy snack. I always pick up Halos™ brand California mandarins. They are everywhere from Costco, Kroger and Walmart and are absolutely delicious.
So why do I pick up mandarins instead of oranges? They are sweet, seedless, and super easy to peel, no knife needed. They’re all natural, non-GMO (non-genetically modified organism), and the perfect size for kids little hands. My four year old daughter loves mandarins but has a hard time pronouncing ‘mandarins’ so she called them ‘angels.’ One look at the Halos bag and you’ll see why.
This past weekend, I decided to make a fun recipe with our mandarins. Hannah was asking to make cookies and I was in the mood for something fresh and so we compromised: Mandarin Butter Cookies with a Simple Mandarin Icing.
The recipe is super simple, and the butter cookie was just amazing. Soft, crumbly and a rich citric flavor flows throughout the cookie. The icing also has wonderful citric notes and with the added zest it really made this cookie amazing.
I love the Halos brand for so many reasons. First they have an amazing product, but they also do so much good. Every week, they give fresh, healthy fruit to food banks that feed thousands of people in California’s Central Valley, where the mandarins are grown. They have also partnered with Feeding America: the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks. They also give more than $2 million annually to educational programs throughout California’s Central Valley, with the goal of making a real and lasting impact. (Learn more here)
Good product. Good brand. I buy them every time.
