Burgers. I have had them almost every way you can imagine. I really do love all kinds of burgers, thick, thin, stuffed. I make hamburgers on the grill probably once a week and always, always with cheese. I guess my family is tired of them by now, but if they are they haven’t been complaining.
Well because I like to make them so much I really do try to keep things interesting. I will mix different meats together and play with the texture of the beef. I have sautéed veggies and added to the burgers. I also have put cheese in the middle of them. But recently, I got the bright idea to combine to of my favorite loves, burgers and bacon. What a wonderful idea!!!
I wanted to infuse every vote with bacon, and then top it with bacon, to make the ultimate bacon overload burger. I knew that I had some of the delicious Wrights brand bacon I purchased at Walmart and how wonderfully it cooks on the grill. The ground beef and bacon would be a perfect match! I grabbed the bacon out of the fridge and set to work.
My first job was that I took 6 pieces of bacon and placed in my ninja (a food processor or blender would work) and pulverized it. I then took 80/20 beef (it’s going on the grill remember?) and mixed the two together very gingerly by hand. Be careful not to over mix it the burgers will be tough. I then separated the mixture into 5 even balls and set aside to let them rest.
I marched outside and preheated my grill to medium heat. Placing the balls of ground beef and bacon on the grill I flattened them out with a gentle press. I allowed them to cook on both sides turning once until they were firm to the touch. This took about 15-20 minutes. When the burgers were finished I put 2 strips per burger of Wrights Brand bacon on the grill to cook as well.
Wright brand bacon is wonderful on the grill. It can stand up to the direct heat and is thick enough where it doesn’t burn before the whole piece is cooked and deliciously crispy. Taking it off the grill I was excited about my bacon overload burger!
The burger was simply two ingredients and was fully of smoky flavor and just the right amount of seasoning. Give these burgers a try if you love bacon!
