It’s football season! Finally after a long wait I can start bleed orange and black every Sunday. Out of all the sports, my wife will tell you football is my favorite. That’s due in part to the food involved; pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, grilling out, everything I love to eat.
My wife and I often have friends over and every so often we tailgate. It’s lots of fun being with like minded fans. Halftime comes and we grab more to eat, it’s our American tradition.
Because tailgating season is here, I thought I’d share a few yummy recipes that are perfect for tailgating. Whether it’s in your backyard or on the back of a pickup truck, grilling out both of these recipes will result in no leftovers! It was hard to stop eating them!
The first is a twist on pizzas. I grabbed some Sara Lee Hot Dog Buns and chopped them in half. Hot dog buns make for a great base, they are affordable and one bag makes 16 mini pizzas. To start just cut the hotdog buns in half, grab your favorite pizza sauce, then add meat (I added one oversized pepperoni) and then cheese. Sara Lee also has cheese available in half cut slices, which are perfect for this. To assemble, the pizzas take about 5 minutes for 16 and then put them on the grill for 5 minutes. Gooey goodness that everyone can enjoy. The Sara Lee hotdog buns crisp up and the cheese and sauce melt together for an amazing bite. I picked up my Sara Lee Hotdog Buns at Walmart.
Next we have another tailgate worthy pizza! Buffalo Chicken Spinach pizza. These are perfect on the grill on in the oven. First you’ll need a Boboli Pizza Crust. You’ll find these in the Italian/pasta aisle at your local Walmart. You can get the mini size (2 per pack) or the regular size. Grill up some chicken, add some buffalo sauce while it’s grilling while that’s going grab your favorite sour cream dip, just it as the base instead of pizza sauce. Then add some spinach, the chicken and top it with your favorite cheese, I used cheddar.
Grill the pizza until the cheese bubbles. Yes, your friends won’t be able to resist this! It’s mouthwatering and the crust is perfect.
Next time you decide to tailgate, don’t do boring! Have a gourmet tailgate, it’s easy to make and everyone will thank you for it.
